Aidan O’Rourke (SCO) is a stunningly multitalented, adventurous musician, fiddler and composer. Once a member of Blazin’ Fiddles, he obviously has mastered his Trad down to a T a long time ago, but his solo albums cover an amazingly wide stylistic range, from the jazzified/funkified Scottish folk on his debut album Sirius to very original and ambitious, sometimes outright soundscap-y and experimental projects and lots of things in between, while never completely losing connection with Celtic roots. He is also a member of the groundbreaking neo-trad band Lau and has been a part of several other ensemble and band projects. His latest album, with Kit Downes, is an all-instrumental interpretation of a short story collection (!) by author James Robertson – quite an unusual and extremely successful project. Intense and ever exploring, he is among the most interesting artists in this or any music scene today.
