Back Of The Moon (SCO) was a Scottish modern trad band active between 2000 and 2007 and recognized with several trad awards during that period. The lineup of the band was, in effect, an all-star team of young Scottish trad musicians: Findlay and Hamish Napier, Gillian Frame and Ali Hutton – the results had to be brilliant with that talent, and they were.
Their two studio albums and one live album testify to the band’s huge energy and skill; they played trad as if they had invented it themselves, perhaps not transforming it too much but lighting it up with fire and grace. These albums are a pure joy and would be a perfect introduction to anyone curious about the genre. Also significant is that the band probably played a major role in further energizing the Scottish trad scene for the the 21st century.
