Cherish The Ladies (USA) are an American (with some Irish reinforcements) all-female group who since the early 1990’s have successfully brought traditional Irish music to the US and global audiences. They have built up a notable and varied discography and are a strong presence in the global trad scene.
The somewhat flexible line-up of the band has seen many an excellent musician over the years and their popularity is well deserved. At times – when they occasionally give in to their C&W inclinations – they are a bit too American for my European taste and, consequently, the albums tend to feel a bit uneven to me.
But they are very fine musicians and singers and there’s loads and loads of very well and freshly performed traditional Irish tunes I much like on all their albums, so I have created my own ”CTL Trad” playlist where I can have these brilliant ladies’ best undiluted Irish moments on power play 🙂
