Deaf Shepherd (SCO) are a Scottish Trad band who made three excellent albums between 1996 and 2001. They are still functioning and recently performed at Celtic Connections 2019 but have not, to my knowledge at least, recorded in almost 20 years.
They are one of my favorites as they embody a full-blooded Highlands style full of vigor and punch, very much fit for dancing and foot stomping. At their most energetic they come across as the hard rock wing of their fully acoustic musical scene – I believe you can actually bang your head to their most powerful tunes 😀
Their ballads are also strongly performed and arranged yet peaceful and lucid, with sensitive and heartfelt vocals by guitarist John Morran.
I wish there were more recorded output from the band but the three albums they have released are a precious element in the canon of Scottish and Celtic trad.
