Need music for a Celtic & Folk Xmas? Here’s my recommendations

The snow fell even here in the south of Finland over a week ago and, contrary to forecasts then, it has stayed, with more falling almost daily. It’s looking downright Christmasy out there and checking the calendar proved it – it’s time to take out Ye Olde (well not that old, really) Xmas music!

I won’t go into any details or musings here, here is simply a list of the Celtic and Folk Xmas albums I really like and can warmly recommend for you holidays listening pleasure! In absolutely no order:

Mike McGoldrick, John McCusker & John Doyle: Christmas At Home

Cara Dillon: Upon A Winter’s Night

Aine Minogue: Winter – A Meditation

Bruce Cockburn: Christmas

Kate Rusby: Sweet Bells / The Frost Is All Over / Angels and Men / Holly Head (yeah, four Xmas albums so far – she is really into the Season…)

Còig: Carols / Carols, Too

The Outside Track: Christmas Star

Loreena McKennitt: A Midwinter Night’s Dream

Emily Smith: Songs For Christmas

The Selkie Girls: Winter Lore – Songs for Celtic Christmas

Fiona Mackenzie: Duan Nollaig

Ashley Davis & John Doyle: The Christmas Sessions

Phil Cunningham’s Christmas Songbook

So there. Hoping to discover more Celtic & Folk Xmas goodies over the next couple of weeks 🙂

All of these artists are on the major streaming platforms but most of them are also on Bandcamp where you can not only listen to the albums and songs (up to five times for free) but also purchase them in digital or physical formats and so directly support the artists themselves who sell their music on the Bandcamp platform.

Thank you!
